What is CARE?

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) is a state funded program designed to assist single parents who are recipients of TANF/CalWORKs who are attending college and are guided and supported to achieve their educational goals.

CARE is a supplemental support program of Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) at El Camino College. Students must meet both EOPS and CARE eligibility criteria to be eligible for CARE.


  • Supplemental grants
  • Bus tokens & gas cards
  • Meal vouchers
  • Child care for sick children (TLC Program)
  • Single parent support groups
  • Child care/community referrals
  • Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law (Referral forms available at the front counter)


Eligibility Requirements

  1. You are a recipient of TANF/ CalWORKs (ATTENTION: Student or child must be receiving cash aid)
  2. You are over 18 years of age
  3. You are single head of household
  4. You have at least one child under the age of 14

PLUS EOPS Eligibility

  1. Must be a California Resident
  2. Must be eligible for a Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOG A or B)
  3. Must be enrolled in 12 units or more (some exceptions may be made)
  4. Have not completed more than 50 degree applicable units
  5. Must have an educational need

Student Responsibility

  • Complete CARE student contract
  • Two contacts with a CARE Advisor each semester
  • Attend the CARE mini-conference or two workshops
  • Be in compliance with the EOPS student contract
  • Complete Agency Certification for income verification annually
